  5. Constant Speed ECM Page 1 Constant Speed (OEM) Outdoor Fan ECM • Genteq introduced the Constant Speed outdoor fan motor in 2000 • Two piece motor/control design • Installed, serviced and replaced as one component • Out of production 142 • 2008 Current production 142R • Constant Speed • OEM programming • Optimize more efficient quieter fan operation • ECM Technology – PSC simplicity • Higher efficiency & OEM programmability

  6. Constant Speed ECM Page 1 • Operation • 208-230vac continuous line voltage • A/C or DC communication • Constant Speed • Hardwired at motor • No plugs at the motor • Wire colors OEM specific • Model 142 • 1/3 horse power only • Model 142R • 1/5, 1/3, 1/2, 3/4 horse power • Improved start routine

  7. Constant Speed ECM Page 2 • Operation • 208-230vac continuous line voltage • Operates internal electronics and drives the motor • A/C or DC communication • OEM specific • Speed per demand by OEM program

  8. Constant Speed ECM Page 2 • Application • High SEER A/C and Heat Pump • Single and Two stage applications • Split and Package units • Shaft up, shaft down, remotely located control Shaft Up Design Shaft Down Design

  9. Constant Speed ECM Page 3 • Installation/Set-up • Typically no set up • See OEM manuals • Troubleshooting • Model 142 and 142R • Line voltage continuously powered • Voltage within ±10% acceptable • Communication voltage by demand • OEM specific • Use OEM manual and/or schematic to confirm voltage

  10. Constant Speed ECM Page 3

  11. Constant Speed ECM Page 4 Repair • Programs are specific to HVAC OEM, model and size unit • 142R is available only as a single component • Replacement parts must come from HVAC OEM • No universal replacement parts, NOT FIELD REPARIABLE • Using the wrong motor voids all warranties • May produce unexpected results • Follow all instructions with replacement parts • 142R is backward compatible with model 142

  12. Constant Speed ECM Page 4 Conclusion • Genteq 142R motor built with 6 generations of ECM technology • Reliability improvements include: • Fully encapsulated electronics • Improved EMI filter • Speed limiting • 6KVA • Durable ball bearings • Proven reliability with proper installation, set-up, and annual maintenance

  13. Constant Speed ECM Page 4 www.theDealerToolbox.com • Genteq product information & training videos • ECM Service Guide • Free to download • Latest version updated in 2009 • Troubleshooting Guide for all Genteq ECM • Constant Airflow (Variable Speed) indoor blower motors • Including use of TECMate PRO and TECMate XL • Constant Torque X13 and Evergreen indoor blower motors • Constant Speed 142 and 142R outdoor fan motors

  16. Page 5 Constant Speed ECM Constant Speed Commercial Refrigeration Motors 1997 – General Electric introduces ECM products for commercial refrigeration applications. 2004 – Regal Beloit acquires ECM division from General Electric and continues to build commercial refrigeration products under the name GE ECM by REGAL BELOIT. 2007 – Regal Beloit acquires Morrill Motors. Morrill has been producing commercial refrigeration motors in an ECM design called SSC since 2003. 2010 – Regal Beloit rebrands all commercial refrigeration products under Morrill Motors HVAC/R curriculum

  17. Page 5 Constant Speed ECM Constant Speed Commercial Refrigeration Motors • Initially designed for evaporator fan motors • Near continuous run time and low efficiency • Commonly used 25-30% efficient shaded pole • Benefits of ECM technology • Increased electrical efficiency, more than double shaded pole • Reduced waste heat on refrigeration load • ECM applications • Evaporator and condenser motors • 20 watt unit bearing up to fractional Hp 48 NEMA frame • OEM and drop-in replacement HVAC/R curriculum

  18. Page 5 Constant Speed ECM • Operation • Constant Speed • Reduces effects of dirt load on motor performance • Decreases motor sizes HVAC/R curriculum

  19. Constant Speed ECM Page 6 • ARKTIC SSC • Unit bearing motor • Output rating 2-25 watts • Speed rating 1000-3600 RPM • Applications • Reach in coolers • Bottle coolers • Display cases • Vending machines • Available in complete fan/shroud assembly • Motor and control in one complete housing HVAC/R curriculum

  20. Constant Speed ECM Page 6 • ARKTIC 59 • Ball bearing motor (3.3” dia.) • Output rating 1/15th Hp • Speed rating 500-1800 RPM • Applications • Walk in coolers • Walk in freezers • Motor and control built in separate housings bolted together • Also available in ICE series HVAC/R curriculum

  21. Constant Speed ECM Page 6 • ARKTIC 142 • Ball bearing motor (NEMA 48 Frame) • Available in 1/5, 1/3, 1/2, and 3/4 Hp • Speed rating 300-1200 RPM • Applications • Condensing fan • Large walk in coolers and freezers • Motor and control built in separate housings bolted together • Also available in ICE series HVAC/R curriculum

  22. Constant Speed ECM Page 6 • ARKTIC Series Motors • Commonly used in single speed applications • Two and three speed options available • Simple 2-pin refrigeration connections to line voltage • Available ¼’ fast on and bare wire strip • Simplicity of shaded pole, energy savings of ECM • ICE Series Motors • Fully programmable • PWM and DSI communication • Compatible with automated controls HVAC/R curriculum
