Hotels will be legalized in and around Golden temple. • The state government has decided to finalize the draft for regularizing the hotels and guest house in and around the Golden temple complex in which one is owned by the SGPC. • According to the proposal “one-time settlement policy”, around 125 units who never obeyed the Municipal building by laws, 1997 or the revised building by laws 2010 were put forward to the ambit of compoundable offense. • Compoundable penalty will be charged by the owners to make these units legalized. • Sarabjit Singh Verka, who is a activist of Punjab Human Rights challenged the operation of these hotels units in Punjab and Haryana high court in 2010.

Since, the case is still pending but the government is trying to sanction the functioning of these units. • The high court has decided the next date of hearing on March 2. • To resolve the issue appropriately the government is trying to sanction the policy after several unsuccessful attempts have been made to seal such units in the wake of disruptive response of the affected hoteliers. • Local bodies’ department state that the proposals for regularizing the 125 hotels, guest houses and inns was passed in the cabinet meeting which was held on November 26, 2014 and this should be followed by the process of framing policy. • BJP’s National Secretary Tarun Chugh said that confirming the development a meeting was held between the Deputy CM, hoteliers’ delegation and officials recently at Chandigarh.

He said that he took the initiative to fix the meeting since the government intended to find the amicable solution for this. • “The policy was expected to come out this month, after getting the nod of civic house ” said by senior town planner Shakti Sagar Bhatia. • The policy would be presented in the high court to get the green signal. • People who look for the budget accommodation will be benefitted once the policy gets approved. • These units provide accommodation but does not run kitchen. “Good news is being expected on February 25 or 26” said by the president of Hotels and guest Houses Association, Surinder Singh. • We convinced the Deputy CM during the meeting that Amritsar can never match the modern cities by laws.

The members asked that same relaxation should be extended to them as it was done in other holy cities. • The members committed that best fire safety equipment will be set up by each hotelier with regard about the safety norms and parking space. • Under the beautification project the government has decided to make the no vehicle zone around the Golden Temple. • Heavy rush of vehicles can be cope up by the multilevel parking Saragarhi near Dharam Singh market, “The meeting ended with the positive decision” said by him.
