  1. The 2019 Subaru XV Plug-in Hybrid Revealed The Subaru XV has been well received here in Australia, but it looks like an exciting new release may not be available here. We’re talking about a recent reveal of the new 2019 Subaru XV plug-in hybrid that will be known as the Crosstrek Hybrid in the US when it goes on sale there. Let’s take a closer look at this interesting XV variant to see what it has to offer. Why Bother Talking About a US-Only Release? The Subaru XV price offers an outstanding value proposition for Aussie SUV drivers, but we are not likely to see the new VX plug-in hybrid here. So, this will bring up the inevitable question, why even talk about it in the first place? Well, firstly it’s important to note that things can and indeed do change in the car industry on a fairly regular basis. So, a decision could be made, and then this XV variant could go on sale here; stranger things have happened. Next, it’s always worth looking at a Subaru car that’s being released only in Japan or for a different foreign market. Many of the features that we see on these cars actually do make it into other releases later on. So, perhaps we will see a future plug-in hybrid release here, but it could be available in a slightly different format or even on a different car entirely.

The 2019 Subaru XV Plug-in Hybrid This is the first-ever plug-in hybrid released by Subaru, and it will maintain the all-wheel- drive sensibilities that the Japanese car manufacturer is famous for. The EV only range using battery power is reported as 27km, and it will be known as the Crosstrek in the US. The new XV variant was unveiled before an official reveal at the recent Los Angeles Motor Show. This PHEV has a 2.0L four-cylinder “boxer” engine petrol that’s paired with an electrical motor duo. The first electric motor is used to start the Crosstrek petrol engine and to generate power for the onboard 8.8kWh lithium-ion battery back. The second electric motor provides 88kW of power and 202 Nm of torque for pure electric and hybrid power. This system will then recharge the battery during regenerative braking and topping off at an appropriate power outlet. When in EV mode, the XV will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 105 km/hr, and the total system output will be 110kW. This is only slightly less than a standard 2.0L petrol powered XV so drivers will not notice much of a difference in performance on the road. However, this XV plug-in hybrid will be able to reach 0-97 km/hr a second quicker than the 2.0L, which is astonishing. The total range will be 772 km, but the cargo space drops to 450L from 589L thanks to the space requirements of the lithium-ion battery pack.
