Understanding Characterization in Writing

Characterization is the way writers bring characters to life by creating and describing them for the reader. There are two types: direct and indirect. Direct characterization is when the writer explicitly tells us about the character, while indirect characterization shows the character's personality through speech, thoughts, effects on others, actions, and looks. Through examples and strategies like STEAL, writers can effectively develop well-rounded characters in their writing.
