  2. Hythe – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • There Is Nothing Better Than Christmas: This slogan is visible on Christmas POS, security shrouds and overhead signs throughout the store. One side of one aisle is given over to Christmas products and supported with overhead signs and bus stops. • NEW There Is Nothing Better Than A Whiter Brighter Christmas: This is the theme highlighting household items, with 2 aisles dedicated to cleaning products supported with hanging signs, footprints, bus stops and overhead signs. • Ideal For Christmas: The seasonal aisle has 10 bays dedicated to Christmas related items with bus stops and shelf edge strips. Snow ploughs with the message, “Ideal for Christmas” promote offers at aisle ends. • Clubcard Boost: Bus stops around the store highlight this continued promotion. • Tesco Price Promise: Bus stops together with overhead signs at the checkouts promote the “Tesco Price Promise”. • Gift Cards: Available for various retailers and online stores and promoted with overhead signs at the checkouts. • General Feel: A very festive store with well stocked shelves. The butcher was dressed as a turkey! Sutton – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • NEW Discover Our Biggest Gift Shop George.com: This message is displayed in the clothing department. • Big Brand Toy Sale: Floor stacks in the first aisle together with 4 gondola ends are used to promote the toy sale. • ASDA Price Guarantee: The guarantee, “10% cheaper or we’ll give you the difference” is advertised at every checkout. • Christmas: 10 bays in the seasonal aisle are dedicated to Christmas confectionery, supported with overhead signs, bus stops, floor strips and barkers. A further 13 bays of accessories and gifts are seen on entry to the store. The central aisle has additional shippers and floor stacks. • Price Lock: The message, “Where prices go down and stay down” is displayed on overhead signs, shelf fins and tax discs. • Big Rollback: Rollback prices are highlighted with beanies around the store. • Saving You Money Everyday: This is the main message on the aisle end promotions. • General Feel: The store had many shippers and floor stacks together with large front of shop displays. Shelves were well stocked with plenty of staff on hand.   4. Huddersfield – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • Christmas: The seasonal aisle has 20 bays dedicated to Christmas products supported with high signs and bus stops. Christmas chocolates are also displayed at the checkouts. • The Big One: This is the main message used on signs advertising various offers. • Big Christmas Bonus: The “Big Christmas Bonus” continues to be promoted with overhead signs at the checkouts reminding customers to collect their coupons. A large overhead sign has the message “Big Christmas Bonus – Don’t Forget To Collect Your Coupon Today!” • General Feel: A busy store with additional table displays, floor stacks and shippers. Shelves were well stocked and staff were on hand to assist customers. Leeds – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • NEW TU Clothing Sale: 25% off the TU clothing range is advertised in the car park and on entry to the store together with signs throughout the clothing department. • Christmas: 35 bays are dedicated to themed confectionery and gift sets, highlighted with overhead signs and bus stops. • Mobile by Sainsbury’s: The pay-as-you-go network is promoted at every checkout. • Brand Match: The slogan, ”The deals you get at Tesco and ASDA without going to Tesco and ASDA” is visible on signs in the car park and throughout the store. • Great Offers: Different offers including ½ price, £1 and 1/3 off are promoted throughout the store with this message. • General Feel: A clean, tidy and spacious store with plenty of staff on hand to assist customers. Promotional areas and shippers were well stocked and staff were available to assist customers.   8. Colchester – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • Christmas: The seasonal aisle has 12 bays dedicated to Christmas related items all highlighted with header boards and shelf fins. Heston’s Christmas chocolates, puddings and pies are on display as you enter the store, all with 25% off. • My Waitrose Loyalty Card: The message “You Pay 10% Less On 100’s Of Products” is advertised on wobblers, bus stops and barkers throughout the store. • Brand Price Match: Green barkers, bus stops and large hanging signs state that Tesco’s prices are matched on branded groceries, excluding promotions. • 1000’s Of Ways To Great Value: Signs highlight various offers throughout the store. • Offers: Numerous offers sited at aisle ends and supported by header boards and shelf barkers promoting the individual offers including ½ price, 1/3 off and BOGOF. • General Feel: The store was relatively busy at the time of visit and looked very festive with lots of decorations and the checkouts looked as though they had been wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper. Colchester – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • Sparkling Offers: Header boards and shelf barkers highlight various offers around the food hall. • Christmas: Food to order for Christmas and New Year is promoted in store by standees, overhead signs and brochures at the checkouts. • Dine In For 2: 2 mains, a side and a dessert for £10 is promoted throughout the store with standees and snow ploughs. • Perfect For Christmas: This slogan is featured on all Christmas related POS, supported by FSDUs, shelf barkers, shelf edge strips and header boards. • General Feel: The store was busy at the time of visit. Some shelves and aisles were poorly stocked. An ‘electronic poster’ in the window displayed various messages and images.   10. Mersea – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • Christmas: Christmas POS is sited around the store together with bunting and overhead signs. Christmas products are located at aisle ends, in FSDU’s and floor stacks. • Good With Food / A Great Deal Locally: These slogans are used on dump bins and end of aisle header boards to highlight offers in store. • Sourced Locally Is Miles Better: Overhead signs and tax discs promote products that have travelled fewer miles to store. • How Did We Do?: An ‘A’ board outside the store together with posters inside advertise the 2 minute survey handed to customers at the checkout. • Saver Stamps: Saver stamps are available when your shop is over £5 and enable you to save 80% on cookery books. This offer is highlighted with FSDU’s, tax discs, hanging signs and posters. • General Feel: The store was bereft of customers but staff were filling shelves in all aisles. There wasn’t as much Christmas POS as in other stores. Walton-on-Thames – Wednesday 4th December • Key Customer Themes: • Christmas Altogether At ALDI: This is the main theme within ALDI supported by window and overhead signs and dump bins. • Christmas All Wrapped Up: This slogan is featured on overhead signs highlighting Christmas related items. • Spend A Little Live A Lot: This is the main slogan used throughout the store. • ALDI Super 6: 6 vegetables available at 49p each and located on an aisle end supported with a header board. • General Feel: The store was laid out in a straightforward manner with wire dump bins and floor stacks used for the main displays. A number of floor stacks are sited around the store, especially close to the checkouts. Window posters also advertise offers and shelf space had been given over to additional floor stacks. Staff were on hand to assist customers.
