  3. Growth of Scheme • Increased applications from 951 to 1517 in 2012 + 59% • The number of winners in 2012 stands at 1424 + 67% • Green Flag Community Award Winners more than doubled from 73 to 175. • Increased the number of volunteer judges by more than 250 – to over 800

  4. Developments and Innovation • A new group application process for 20 Local Authorities with multiples sites taking part in the scheme • New training courses for judges • Mystery shopper programme • Worked with partners to introduce the scheme to Germany, Australia and New Zealand

  6. Keep Britain Tidy • Overall management of licence • Management of application process • Management of judging and results • Promotion and marketing • Relationship management of partners • Licencing the scheme to international partners • Securing sponsorship

  7. GreenSpace • Judges training and development • Support for Judges Association Committee • Links to regional forums • International development including monitoring

  8. Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens • Support the Green Flag Community Award National Housing Federation • Support the growth of the scheme in the social housing sector

  9. Licence • DCLG have licenced Keep Britain Tidy to deliver the Scheme in the UK • 5 years • Keep Britain Tidy to sub licence the scheme to other UK countries • International licences will be agreed with a relevant organisation in each country

  10. Licence funding • DCLG providing up to 75k of transitional funding in year 1 only • Scheme required to be self sufficient from year 2 • Corporate support not yet secured

  11. Our challenges • Maintain the integrity of the scheme • Continue to invest in the development of judges • Increase the number of winners • Ensure more people have access to quality parks and green spaces

  12. Future funding • We have worked hard to keep expenditure at the lowest level possible while ensuring a quality service is maintained • Application fees will need to increase for the Green Flag Award • The Community Award is required to be free to enter

  13. 2013 Prices - England • Sites up to 20 hectares £299 • Sites at or above 20 hectares £349

What does the money fund • 4 members of staff • Receipt and processing of applications and results • Recruitment and training of judges • Promotional materials, flags etc. • Judges expenses to conduct assessment visits • Support for JAC • Media activity to promote the award • Promotion of the scheme and support for potential and new applicants • Provision of helpline for applicants and public enquiries • Sourcing of sponsors

  16. Judging model Green Flag Award - Year 1 – two judges assessment (winning sites) Year 2 – Mystery shopping Year 3 – two judges assessment etc…….. Requirement to submit application each year Updated management plan submitted in year 1, 3 etc Community Award - Assessment by one judge each year

  17. Key Dates • Application round opens 3rd December 2012 • Application round closes 10th February 2013 • Allocations commence 1st March 2013 • Judging ends 7th June 2013 • Judges submit reports 23rd June 2013 • Announcement of Awards late July 2013
