Key initiative of 1987 GLWQA Documents, Processes and Programs; Document – produced every 2 years, now 5; Process -- develops binational joint priorities, management interventions, finds/aligns resources; Program -- works with binational partners to implement priorities for protection of Lake Superior ecosystem

  3. 1. LAMP Is a Document LAKE SUPERIOR LAKEWIDE MANAGEMENT PLAN (LAMP)

LAMP is a Process…. • …by which Lake Superior stakeholders: • Gather/meet to identify problems; • Develop management strategies; • Prioritize actions and activities (including monitoring); • Implement agreed-upon projects • Direct and align resources to address problems • Assess how strategies are working

Lake Superior Lakewide Management Program LAMP is a Program …. • Work with binational federal, state, provincial, tribal partners; • Have internal budget • Have GLRI Action Plan LAMP milestones, goals and objectives; • Work with Forum/NGOsw Watershed groups • Climate change • Realtor’s Guide • AIS prevention • Fisheries success • Annual Updates

In Conclusion….LAMPs Matter • LAMPs are Integral Part of New WQA • Principal mechanism for binational planning, coordination, reporting and implementation in support of the GLWQA at the lake level. -- Funding in Support of Priorities • Main management framework at lake level for restoration, protection and maintenance of LS • Use of adaptive management, with focus on prevention and protection
