  4. Whatis NTPEP? • NTPEP stands for the National Transportation Product Evaluation Program • Established within AASHTO in 1994, as a technical service program, who reports to the Council on Highways and Streets • A partnership between the AASHTO member agencies and industry participants • Combines the professional and physical resources of the AASHTO member departments in order to evaluate materials, products and devices of common interest for use in highway and bridge construction • Two sides of the house • Product Evaluations and Facility Audits

  5. What is NTPEP? • Primary Goal- provide cost-effective evaluations for the AASHTO members (state DOTs) • Simplify the product evaluation process • Make it more cost-effective for both the manufacturer and the end user. • Reduce duplication of effort by State DOTs. • Serve as a “One Stop Shop” for Manufacturers of engineered products. • Provide access to testing that individual states may not have resources to perform themselves.

  6. NTPEPDataMine DataMine provides for: • Submittal of products for evaluation and facilities for audit. • Management of evaluation or audit process and documentation • Entry of all data associated with the evaluation or audit • A searchable database that provides access to results from product evaluations and results from facility audits • (http:data.ntpep.org)

  8. ProductEvaluationPrograms • Work plans developed by TC and balloted to states • Evaluations may include field and/or lab testing • Products tend to be off-the-shelf, pre-packaged • Typically includes a re-evaluation period • Evaluations conducted by facilities that are contracted to NTPEP • Submitted products may be withdrawn, but test results up until then are viewable by credentialed state representatives • NTPEP testing/assessments do not imply acceptance of the product. Acceptance is the responsibility of the member agency.
