  2. Volcano opening in the earth through which lava, rock, ashes, and gases are forced out.

  3. Glacier • A glacier is a slowly moving river of ice.

  4. Plain • Mostly flat lands

  5. Coastal Plain an area of flat land along a sea or ocean.

  6. Plateau • a large, flat area of land that is higher than the surrounding land

  7. Hill land that rises above the land around it.

  8. Mountain • a very tall high, natural place on Earth - higher than a hill. The tallest mountain on Earth is Mt. Everest.

  9. Mountain Range A group of mountains

  10. Range A range is an expanse of open land where livestock can wander and graze.

  11. Canyon • A canyon is a deep valley with very steep sides - often carved from the Earth by a river.

  12. Valley • a low place between mountains.

  13. Desert • a very dry area.

  14. Bay • a body of water that is partly enclosed by land (and is usually smaller than a gulf).

  15. Island • a piece of land that is surrounded by water.

  16. Peninsula • land that is almost completely surrounded by water.

  17. River A river is a large stream of water that flows across the land. The world’s longest river is the Nile River at 4,049 miles (6,516 kilometers) long. The Rio Grande River is 1,900 miles long.

  18. Riverbank A riverbank is the land along a river.

  19. Coast land along a sea or ocean

  20. Channel a body of water that connects two larger bodies of water.

  21. Gulf a part of a sea or ocean extending into the land, usually larger than a bay. The Gulf of Mexico is the largest gulf in North America.

  22. Lake A lake is a body of water with land on all sides.
