Outline: Vocabulary: breakthrough– an importance advance or progress. claimed – you declare it as your own captivated - influenced by charm, art, or skill. devices – things that are made or invented for a particular purpose. enthusiastically– act in a way that shows great interest or excitement. envisioned - imagined good things would happen in the future passionate - to have or show a strong feeling about it. patents – papers that give a person or company the right to make, use, or sell new inventions for a certain number of years. • Morning Work: • Complete Monday’s work in Daily Comprehension Book. • Make sure your spelling words are written in your agenda. c. Reading Skills and Concepts of the Week Comprehension Strategy: Ask and Answer Questions [RI.5.1] • Before, during and after you read, you can ask yourself questions to check you understanding. • Example Questions: What is the main idea of this selection? Do I need to reread this text? Comprehension Skill: Text Structure: Sequence [RI.5.5] • Time order • Focuses on ordering the events in a way that moves the story along. • Signal words can include: first, next, later or even specific dates and times in a story. Genre: Biography [RI.5.10] • A true story of a person’s life written by another person. • It can be about someone who lived in the past or someone who is still alive today.

Language Arts Skills and Concepts of the Week Writing: Organization • Good writers organize events in order so that they make sense to the reader. • Use sequence signal words to organize your writing so readers clearly understand the order in which events occur. • Signal words: • First, then, later, finally, next, before, after, etc…
