Review • Spring 2014 • 16 ExCEL schools • 2 Afterschool programs (SPROUT) • 7 schools Independent or part of program • Number of students completed/registered: 455/735=61.9% • Numbers of courses completed/registered: 614/997=61.6% • Summer 2014 • 6 online labs (5 summer) • Numbers of students passing • Number of courses completed
What we found….. Students need: • Class structure • come to the lab at least 4 days • 1 or 2 sessions • Understand the expectations/review course • Set a plan of action at the beginning of the course • Calendar/scheduling • Communication with teacher • check progress /means of seeing movement • Involvement parent/counselor • Understand options • Motivation/Incentive
What we found….. We need: • A system of checking in with students regarding progress • Focused groups: Math vsother • Assistance in math • More training on Powerspeak • More communication with counselors • Understand there is a cultural change • Teacher and student
