  7. The Empathy Project • Last week, you got all of the assignments for the empathy project. • You watched and read several examples in which people tried to live life like someone else. • Questions??????? Read Write Speak Listen

  8. Romeo and Juliet • We starting a new unit today – we’ll be reading Romeo and Juliet together. • When we are done, everyone will understand the play. Promise! • Many of you will like it. Honest! Read Write Speak Listen

  9. Romeo and Juliet • What you can expect: • You’ll get a copy of the play. We won’t use the one in your giant text book. • We’ll read the play in class together. • We’ll read about an act a week (Shakespeare plays are all 5 acts long). Read Write Speak Listen

Romeo and Juliet • What you can expect: • We’ll read / act out the play together. • Later in the week, we’ll watch the same material from the 1968 version of the film. • At one point, we’ll watch a bit of the 1996 film and compare it to the same scene in the 1968 version. • We’ll do assignments in class to help support the reading. Romeo and Juliet • What you can expect: • You won’t have to answer study questions. • There won’t be any tests. • There won’t be any quizzes – although I may slip a few (not more than 5) R&J questions onto the end of vocabulary quizzes. • There will be assignments to support the reading. Generally, there will time in class to do these. Read Write Speak Listen

  12. Romeo and Juliet • What you can expect: • One of the biggest in class assignments involves acting out a scene for the class. • The major “out-of-class” assignment is the final project. This is meant to be a creative option. There are many options, or you might find something you like on your own. • The final project is due when we finish the unit, but some people choose to do it earlier. Read Write Speak Listen
