History 1947 At the time of independence there were 80 primary and 03 middle schools 1947-75: The Administration of Education Department was looked after by the respective Political Agent/ Deputy Commissioner of the Agency /District. 1976-78 Directorate of Education was established under the Federal Ministry of Education Islamabad. 1979 Transferred to KA/NA Division Islamabad. 1994 Elevated as full fledged Department at G-B Level 2009 Under the new Gilgit-Baltistan Self Governance Order powers delegated to new political setup

Indicators- Statistical Analysis Access to Primary Education = 73% Out of Schools age 5-9 Years = 27% Dropout Rate at primary level = 9% Literacy Rate (Projected) = 64 Male, 38 Female overall 51% Student Teacher Ratio = 1 : 23 Population (5-9 Years) = 92554 Male, 85942 Female = Total 178496 Enrolment 5-9 Years = 74638 Male ,55166 Female = Total 129804

Out of School Going Children The number of children attending primary schools in Gilgit-Baltistan in the year 2009-10 is 73% where as 81% Boys and 64% Girls. * According to population census 1998 only Diamer district was reported while Astore district was announced in 2008. Population figure was separate on the basis of tehsi so figure seems to exceed 100%. ** The growth rate of Ghanche is 1.18 which does not seems realistic due to which access to Primary Education becomes more than 100%.

Mission To bring all children, boys and girls inside in the schools by providing quality education through access at all levels.

  37. Objectives of the Project 1. Introducing training programs in new emerging disciplines to provide technically trained manpower in different technological trades. 2. Making technical education demand-driven and responsive to the needs of job market. 3.To improve the technical skills of male and female of Gilgit-Baltistan. 4. To meet the demands of technical education in Gilgit-Baltistan. 5. To divert prospective seekers of higher education from a purposeless general education to a meaningful technical education in Gilgit-Baltistan. 6. To link education to self-employment at secondary level. 7. To contribute towards regional and local development.
