This scholarship is a response to the lack of financial assistance provided to students, who do not have the legal documentation, that attend college in the United States. In particular, CORE seeks to support undocumented students that have met the rigorous academic requirements asked of them and hold the academic promise to achieve so much more. •  Must be of Chicano / Latino descent •  Must be an undocumented student. Undocumented student defined as someone who was born outside of the U.S. but lives here without the legal permission of the federal government •  Must be or will be a high school/GED graduate who will enroll for the first time in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the 2013-2014 academic year. 8. San Diego Foundation Scholarship DUE February 4, 2013 • San Diego Foundation • The Foundation is the largest scholarship provider in San Diego County (outside of the university system). Last year, we awarded more than $2.5 million to more than 650 students at 2-year colleges; 4-year universities; trade/vocational schools; graduate, medical and professional schools and teaching credential programs. • The Common Scholarship Application uses one online form to access more than 100 scholarships! • Applicants don’t have to have straight A’s, be star athletes or be in leadership positions. John Lyons Memorial Foundation Scholarship Program DUE January 31, 2013 • John Lyons Memorial Foundation Scholarship3737 Camino del Rio South Suite 202, San Diego, CA 92108Amounts: (1) One four-year college scholarship for a maximum amount of $5,500. Initial year amount is $2,500 for the school year beginning September 2013; continued scholarship assistance in the amount of $1,000 per year for a maximum of three additional years if the student continues to meet scholarship standards. Eligible expenses include tuition, books, and housing. Change a Life Foundation Scholarship DUE March 14, 2013 • https://www.changealife.org • The Change a Life Foundation Scholarship is awarded to graduating high-school seniors that will be attending a four-year university in the Fall of 2013. A Change a Life Foundation Scholarship provides a unique opportunity for those who qualify. The recipients of our scholarship must demonstrate high financial need, strong academics, leadership qualities, and community service involvement. Applicants are eligible to receive up to a $5,000 scholarship towards higher education tuition, housing, books, medical insurance or lab fees. • Criteria: • Must be attending a San Diego County Public High School. • 2. Must be a 12th grade student enrolling in a four-year College or University. • 3. Must have a minimum weighted GPA of 3.5 from 9th grade to the first semester of 12th grade. • 4. Must have a minimum SAT score of 1500 or minimum ACT score of 21. • 5. Must be enrolled in and/or have passed Advanced Placement courses (AP courses). • 6. Must be economically disadvantaged: See HUD Low Income Guideline below. • 7. Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident. • 8. Must show evidence of extracurricular activities such as school activities, community involvement, and/or employment. • 9. Must have a minimum 40 hours of community service from 9th grade to first semester of 12th grade.

16. Buick Achievers Scholarship Due Feb. 28, 2013 • Eligibility • Applicants to the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program must: • Be high school seniors, high school graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduate students. • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university based in the U.S. or Puerto Rico for the entire 2013-14 academic year. Proprietary and online schools are not eligible. • Plan to major in a course of study that focuses on Engineering/Technology or select Design and Business related programs of study. See the list of eligible majors. • Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries using these areas of study. • Be U.S. citizens and have permanent residence in the United States or Puerto Rico. • Award Criteria • Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following factors: • Academic achievement • Financial need • Participation and leadership in community and school activities, work experience and interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industry • Please note special consideration will be given to the following applicants: first-generation college, female, minority, military veteran or a dependent of military personnel. • The majority of the scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in Engineering/Techology Fields • Apply online: buickachievers.scholarshipamerica.org

17. A.R.E. Scholarship DUE March 15, 2013 • The Association of Raza Educators (A.R.E.) is determined to provide an education that is equitable to all, regardless of citizenship status. A.R.E. believes that all students deserve an opportunity to attend college without discrimination of any kind.  Through its fiscal sponsor, the Raza Education Fund, the Association of Raza Educators will provide undocumented/AB 540/ DACA eligible students with an opportunity to realize their dreams of attending college. • Each year, A.R.E awards five scholarships to undocumented/AB 540/ DACA eligible graduating seniors and continuing college students. • Scholarship recipients are selected based on need and their commitment to improving conditions within their communities. Students are required to turn in an application and to complete a thorough interview process, which will demonstrate how they are actively involved in fighting for social justice within their communities. AtsuhikoTateuchi Memorial Scholarship DUE March 1, 2013 • Offered through The Seattle Foundation’s scholarship program is now open for applicants.This scholarship supports high school senior and undergraduate Asian students from the Pacific Rim States (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington). 19. 10th Annual HCC/AMNScholarship Essay Contest DUE March 15, 2013 • AMN and Health Care Communicators of San Diego are collaborating once again to offer a scholarship to a student who demonstrates a passion for the health care field. This year, AMN has increased the amount of the scholarship to $2,000. The essay contest is open to high school seniors or college students who are presently enrolled, and in good standing, at a San Diego County school. • Write and submit an essay on the topic: “Why I Plan to Enter the Field of • Health Care After College Graduation.” • Entries must be no more than two typed, double-spaced, one-sided pages • in length. Please include your name, address, phone number, email • address and name of your school with your entry. •  A letter of recommendation must accompany each entry.
