The daughter of the 7th Imam, the sister of the 8th Imam, and the aunt of the 9th Imam - Fatima, better known with the honorific title of “Bibi Masuma-e-Qum” is a woman who, although not in the category of the 14 infallibles, plays a very important role in the lives of the followers of the Ahlul Bait.
The sanctuary of Bibi Masuma-e-Qum is not only her resting place, and an area where teachers give lessons and students gather to study and learn from one another, but the graves of many scholars are also housed there, such as: • Shaikh Abdul Kareem Haieri (the founder of the Qum Hawza); • Ayatullah al-Uzma Burujerdi, • Ayatullah al-Uzma Araki, • Ayatullah al-Uzma Gulpaygani, • Allamah Tabatabai, • Allamah Murtaza Mutahhari, • Ayatullah al-Uzma Baha ad-Dini • and countless other scholars and Maraja Taqlid.
Imam Radha (A.S.) said: One who visits her will be granted Heaven. Imam Jawad (A.S.) said: That one who visits my Aunt in Qum will be granted heaven.
Imam Sadiq (A.S.) said: Soon a lady by the name Fatimah from my family will be buried in Qum. Heaven becomes obligatory on one who visits her.
Imam Khomeini, the great scholar and the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran frequently reminded that he also lived in Qum and received his education with the blessing and sanctity of the Haram of this Noble Lady. He raised the flag of Islam and started the revolution from this place. This Haram shines like diamond in the town. People come from all over the world to visit and pay respects to this Noble Lady. This is just to show their deep love and attachment for this Noble Lady and family of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.).
However, the history of this young woman and the city of Qum do not end with her death – rather, they open a new page in the greatness of Qum and the teachings of the Ahlul Bait. It is most definitely through the Hand of Allah that she was guided to this city as numerous traditions tell us that Qum shall be the centre of knowledge and the place of refuge for the Shia during times of tribulation and calamities. When we look at the products of the Hawzah of Qum we see that the words of the 6th Imam and other Divinely appointed leaders is on the mark as at any time, over 50,000 students from all over the world are busy seeking out the springs of higher learning!
