  2. Whatis Plagiarism? • “stealing or passing off (the ideas or words of another) as your own” -Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Why does plagiarism happen? • Students do not know how to cite sources properly • Students do not know how to paraphrase or summarize information correctly • Students do not plan ahead for their assignments (poor time management skills) • Students do not handle stress well • Students do not understand what plagiarism is and the serious consequences of academic dishonesty

  4. The Consequences of Plagiarism Academic Dishonesty is serious and punishable! Students may expect a mark of zero. Students may also face other serious consequences.

  5. Is it Academic Dishonesty? • Copying directly from one or more electronic sources? • Downloading material from the Internet without acknowledgement? YES YES

  6. Is it Academic Dishonesty? • Asking someone else (friend, parent, tutor) to write an assignment for you? • Paraphrasing the work of others without proper documentation? YES YES

  7. Is it Academic Dishonesty? • Resubmitting an assignment you wrote for one class to another teacher? • Listing sources in your works cited list that you have not used or read? YES YES
