Overview of VISPO: Irrigation Rights Forbearance and Key Program Details

The VISPO initiative aims to manage 40,000 acre-feet of irrigation rights through a structured forbearance process. Key dates include an October 1 trigger when the water level at J-17 falls below 635 ft and an opt-out option on January 1 if it is above 660 ft. The program, supported by the agricultural community, uses an interactive approach over three years, allowing for strategic crop planning and maintaining confidence in the program. The April 17 Implementing Committee Meeting will discuss future steps and the importance of testing VISPO elements to preserve community trust.
