1. Passion In Callings Every human has a passion in life. This passion is apart of the structure of our individuality. It leads our decisions in life and helps us overcome the largest of obstacles. In Hidden Figures, we see the theme of passion and its effect in our lives. In addition to Hidden Figures, Callings shows the same theme of passion. Ultimately, Hidden Figures and Callings show us passion is a force that drives our lives, effects our choices, and allows us to overcome the challenges we face. Ayodeji talks about his family moving from Nigeria. His mother was the breadwinner whereas his father followed his passions. Growing up Ayodeji had a passion for teaching, however, he went to school to become a doctor. During his college years, his father was murdered. After he reflected on his father's life, he realized he could not be a doctor. So, instead, he became a teacher. He knew that following his passion would be what his father would want. Another story I love from this book comes from Jim Clyburn. He talks about his campaigns for Congress. He had run three times before he was finally elected to office. People continuously asked him why? Why did he continue to run when he had lost so many times. His answer was he kept running because it was his passion. He felt he could make a real change. These stories of passion inspire me to follow my own passion. These empowering stories have shown me that if I follow my passions in life, I too can overcome the challenges I will face in following my passion.
