Other Key Issues Need more complete and nuanced picture of nature and scope of youth violence, who is affected, and in what ways • Lack of definitional clarity, consistency, data, esp. re: “gangs” • Need for gender lens • Externalized and internalized forms of violence • Public awareness and perceptions of “the problem” • Economics of gangs: reality check of profits of drug/arms/sex trade vs. “McJobs” (Ritter & Anker, 2002) • Need for Canadian research in these areas
