This project outlines the engineering design process that led to the creation of a new kite aimed at improving casting distance for fishermen. We identified the need for longer casting methods and researched various kite designs. Through brainstorming sessions, we developed concepts that combined box and airplane designs to achieve optimal lift and reduced drag. Prototyping revealed important design modifications, such as increasing the surface area for stability during flight. This project merges creativity with engineering principles to enhance fishing experiences.

Stages of the Engineering Design Recognizing the Need • Easier method of casting when fishing • Creating a smooth and stable flying kite Definition of the Problem • Fishermen wanted a way to make a longer cast Gathering the Information • Research was done on different kite designs Conceptualization • We brainstormed a number of different kite designs
Stages of the Engineering Design Compare, Combine, Select Ideas Design Matrix
Stages of the Engineering Design Analyze and Design • Incorporated Box and Airplane Design • Box • Provides lift • Airplane • Reduces drag when reeling in fish
Stages of the Engineering Design Fabricate and Test Prototypes
Errors in Design • Needed larger surface area • Stability in the front of the plane • Experience in flying
