  2. What is Sustainable Tourism? Sustainable tourism is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It has 3 parts: Economic Sustainability Environmental Sustainability Socio-cultural Sustainability

  3. Economic Sustainability Optimizing the development growth rate at a manageable level with full consideration of the limits of the destination environment.

  4. Environmental Sustainability Natural resources of the individual community and the world should no longer be viewed as abundant and are constantly being depleted.

  5. Socio-cultural Sustainability Implies respect for social identity and social capital, for community culture and its assets and for a strengthening of social cohesiveness.

  6. Sustainable Tourism: Is informative Supports integrity of place Benefits Residents Conserves resources Respects local culture and tradition Does not abuse its product Strives for quality, not quantity Means great trips

  7. Goals of Sustainable Tourism • To improve the resident’s quality of life by: • By optimizing local economic benefits • Protecting the natural and built environment • Provide a high quality experience for visitors • Provide a long-term economic linkage between destination communities and industries • Provide educational information and programs to residents, visitors, industry and other stakeholders

  8. Dimensions of SustainableTourism • Ecological • Social • Economic • Institutional/ Political • Cultural • Technological At the international, national, regional, and local community levels, and within agriculture, tourism, political sciences, economics and ecology.
