  13. ADOPTION IMPLEMENTATION SUSTAINABILITY EVALUATION

  14. ADOPTION Health Center Director performs needs assessment. Dietician and head of dining hall assist in designing intervention with the Health Center Director. Health Center Director presents program to Principal and School Board.

  15. IMPLEMENTATION Once Principal/School Board permit adoption of the program, Health Center Director will need to “stay on top of” all staff or key implementers. Dietician/professional chef will need to train dining hall staff on cooking healthy calcium-rich foods. Dining hall staff will need to utilize these learned skills. Head of dining hall will need to plan ahead and schedule calcium-rich meals in advance. Vending machine supplier will need to work with Health Center Director to flag calcium-rich items.

  16. SUSTAINABILITY • Health Center Director maintains central server file containing all intervention components, including contacts, budgets, calendar, etc. • Health Center Director will need to report results/observations to Principal and School Board. • Principal/School Board must be convinced that the intervention’s pros outweigh the cons. Once they are convinced, they must maintain an item in the budget for the annual intervention. • Dietician will need to train/re-train (or refresh) dining hall staff prior to every school year with healthy cooking techniques and new recipes. • Dining hall staff will not only need to consciously continue to cook healthy, but the head of the dining hall will also need to plan for these healthy meals in advance.

  17. EVALUATION Health Center Director develops a plan that includes questioning, designing, indicating, measuring and timing of all components of the program. Short-term measuring of PBM/Osteoporosis not possible.8 EXAMPLES: -Visually monitor student’s plates -Review meal card “swipes” -Focus groups -Monitor food depletion in cafeteria Once a complete evaluation takes place, key stakeholders like the Principal and School Board can determine how much, if any, money should be devoted to this program in the future.
