Mundus Masters: a quality offer in higher education • The Bologna process: the European countries are working together to build a common higher education system • To help this process the European Community has initiated the Erasmus Mundus Programme, whose first aim is to promote a quality offer in higher education 13

Mundus Masters: an invitation to Europe • With the Mundus programme the European Community also wants to encourage and enable highly qualified graduates and scholars from all over the world to obtain qualifications and/or experience in the European Union Bordeaux • Special funds have been reserved to enforce the programme • (scholarships available) 14

Mundus Master ALGANT: an invitation to higher mathematics • In September 2004 the European Community has selected 19 master courses, among which only one in mathematics: the master in Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory, offered by the Universities of Bordeaux, Leiden, Padova and Paris (ALGANT) Leiden • ALGANT allows strong graduates to prepare a career in research (in academia (PhD) or in the many companies seeking the know- how taught) 15
