Sample Schedule 5A First Period Block One: 8:00 to 9:00 Second Period Block One: 9:00 to 10:00 Third Period Exploratory: 10:00 – 10:50 Fourth Period Lunch 10:50-11:15 Recess11:15-11:40 Fifth Period Advisory: 11:40 to 12:30 Sixth Period Block Two: 12:30 to 1:30 Seventh Period Block Two: 1:30 to 2:25 Doors open at 7:45!

A Day at Troy in the Life of Mary! • Mary arrives at Troy at 7:45 am and proceeds to her locker where she will begin to organize herself for the day. • At 7:55 am Mary reports to her homeroom class with Mrs. Jones. She completes a morning warm up activity and is ready to start her day by 8am.

The Day Continued: • 8:00-9:00 am : Homeroom/Block One • Students watch morning announcements lunch count and attendance taken first period class. • Ms. Jones begins to teach her class their Language Arts lesson for the day. • 9:00-10:00am - Block One Continued • Ms. Jones continues with Language Arts and then transitions to Social Studies later in the block.

  12. Time for Exploratory! • 10:00-10:50: Exploratory (3rd period) • Mary reports to Art class with Mr. Foldesy. • Mary is in this class with the students in her homeroom.

  13. Lunch for Mary  • 4th period 10:50-11:15 • Recess for 25 minutes • Lunch for 25 minutes • Assigned table – rotate each quarter • Hot lunch or a packed lunch ($2.25) • Students clean their table and return back to class.

  14. Advisory Period: 5th period (11:40-12:30 ) • Monday = Band 25 min. then instrumental lessons 25 minutes • Tuesday = Enrichment Activity • Wednesday = stays in homeroom to review Social Studies test • Thursday = Goes to Mr. Citro to work on extra credit math project • Friday = Silent Reading time

  15. 6th Period: Switch Class Block Two 12:30 to 2:25 • Math with Mr. Citro • Last week Pre-Assessments were given • Flexible Grouping allows Mary to be placed in a group that meets her needs for this particular unit.

  16. 7th Period: Block Two Continued • Mary stays in Mr. Citro’s room as they transition into Science mid way through the block. They start the lesson in the 5th grade Science Lab where the students are working in pairs to complete an experiment involving owl pellets!

  17. Dismissal at 2:25 pm • Mary reports back to Ms. Jones class at 2:25 for the last few minutes of the day where she gets all of her belongings, says good-bye to her friends and gets ready for all bus riders to be called!

Digital Citizenship for Parents • No computers in kids bedroom • No Facebook Accounts until age 13 • Must share all account logins and passwords • Take an active role in your kids online life • For every hour spent online kids spend one hour non-screen time. • Cell Phones – Establish ground-rules & monitor.

  23. Individual Counseling • Self-referred, teacher/staff referred, parent referred. • Confidential. • Short sessions. • Parent contact.

  24. Small Group • Typically held during lunch time. • 6 – 8 Sessions • Friendship. • Changing Family. • Loss. • Anger Management. • Organization. • Girl’s Circle

  25. 5th Gr. Classroom Guidance • Conflict Resolution / Anger Management • How conflicts escalate. • Anger styles (acting out, displaced, ignored). • Appropriate anger strategies. • Assertiveness. • Using I-statements. • Bully Prevention.

  27. 5th Gr. Adolescent Development • Conducted by Mr. Walsh (counselor) and Mrs. Busch (nurse). • Permission slip comes home prior to lesson. • 3 Lessons • 1. Body Development & Hygiene (boys & girls separated). • 2. Responsibility / Crushes • 3. Question and answer.
