  2. Civil Disobedience Civil disobedience involves taking a public, non-violent stand against injustice. If you feel that a law, policy, or action is unjust, then take a public stand, like a protest. But do so without violence or aggression. One must also be willing to accept the consequence of breaking a law or rule, but do so peacefully.

  3. As you look at the following picture… Determine whether or not this is an example of civil disobedience. Is it… • Public? • Peaceful? • Opposing an unjust law/rule? • Lastly, are participants willing to accept consequence? Context This is a photo of a sit-in during the U.S. civil rights movement in the mid-20th century. These protestors were opposing Jim Crow laws in the South, which allowed for legal segregation of races. The participants in the sit-in were sitting at a “whites only” counter in a diner and refused to move when asked to do so.
