Paraphrasing / Summarizing • Identify information that may be difficult to understand. • Identify difficult words and find simple synonyms. • Look for ways to rearrange sentences. • Re-write the information incorporating your changes from steps 2 and 3. • Re-read the paraphrased information to make sure the meaning has not changed.   10. Paraphrasing / Summarizing • Try it! • You’ll need: • A text book • Paper you can turn in • Something to write with • Paraphrase the first 15 lines of The Odyssey as they appear in your text book. Read Write Speak Listen

  12. Paraphrasing / Summarizing • Next, find a partner and switch papers. • Read your partner’s work. • Rate your partner’s work on a scale of 1-10 (10 is best). Circle, underline, highlight or otherwise mark particularly good sections. • Create a new paraphrased section by combining the best of each partner’s work. Read Write Speak Listen
