  2. Discipline • Generally considered a response to children’s behavior.

  3. Positive Guidance • An approach that allows the child to develop self-discipline gradually.

  4. Self-discipline • The ability to control one’s own behavior.

  5. Limits • Guides to actions and behaviors that reflect the goals of the center.

  6. Positive Reinforcement • A consequence that rewards a particular behavior and encourages its repetition.

  7. Redirection • The steering or redirecting (in this case, the steering of disruptive behavior to more acceptable behavior)

  8. Redirection • Diverting or turning a child’s attention in a different direction.

  9. Direct Guidance • Physical and verbal actions, such as facial and body gestures, that influence behavior.

  10. Indirect Guidance • Outside factors influencing behavior such as the layout of the center.

  11. Modeling • In social learning theory, the process of imitating a model.
