  1. Author ID - standards Ricardo, Martijn, Katy

  2. How do we set a unique author ID standard? Unique author list Doc IDs per author • Neil Smalheiser Medline PubMedIDs • James Pringle ISI DOI? • Damien Sherman Scopus DOI, scopus authors • Thom Hickey OCLC DOI/Lib Auth. Files • Israel Lederhendler NIH ?? • Jeff Krause NSF ?? • Katy’s group 7 DBs • ?? COS author profiles • Lokman Meho Google ??

  3. Process • Merge time stamped unique author lists by Knewco, Katy’s group, Neil, ?? • Feed result into WikiAuthors • Have community clean up – make sure everybody is on the map • Use it as index into all major DBs

  4. Incentive • Have the most complete, most accurate unique author list. • Use to link to all the different DBs. • Offer unique services based on this unique author list. E.g., semantic author profiles using Knewco technology, geo + topic mapping using John Burgoon et al’s tools, Marc’s trend analysis, Mike’s ROI indexes • Provide search engine that DB providers can freely use to query their DBs via our unique list and display result via their interface.

  5. Other Standards • Are DOIs working perfectly? Need time stamped identifiers for • Genes, proteins • Institutions, journals, countries, geolocation names • Grants & proposals Make sure grants.gov collects the right data, e.g., zip codes, …

  6. Make it Multi-lingual & Multi-disciplinary Use Lattes (Brazil) approach, see http://lattes.cnpq.br/index.htm

  7. Result: Abstract semantic network Time stamped (because attributes change) URIs for different instantiations of xx different entity types. Time stamped interlinkages between any of the xx entity types. E.g., genes, proteins mentioned in paper as well as alg and dataset reported in paper. Author of paper, institution, country, etc. Can this be stored/managed using wiki technology?

  8. Funding • Create W3C like Consortium. • Get industry buy-in.
