American History • America was called the ‘New World’ and was settled by European colonists who wanted religious freedom. • For a long time, the colonies were still governed by the British Empire. • Eventually, the colonists wanted to form their own country and began fighting for freedom from the British.

A Little Bit More on America • The opening shots of the American Revolution were fired at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts in April 1775. • America was ‘born’ on July 4, 1776. • George Washington was the leader of the continental army and first president of the United States. • A democracyis a government for the people, by the people where the people have the power.

  8. Australia • Australia is home to the world’s most dangerous animals. (Sharks, jellyfish, crocodiles, etc.) • There are more kangaroos than people. • It is the only country that takes up an entire continent.

  13. Canada • Basketball was invented in Canada. • French is also a major language. • Canadians have a similar accent to Americans. They us words like ‘eh’ that most Americans do not.

If you do not understand, then do not worry about it! • The Northern Lights are caused by winds and particles from the sun interacting with the Earth’s magnetic field.

  17. The United Kingdom • The United Kingdom is made up of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England. • The history here is rich. (There’s too much to even begin! Unlike Canada and America, the United Kingdom is much older.) A lot of legends, writers, artists, political leaders, athletes, and scientists have come from this area. • This is the part of the world where all the stories about princesses, knights, and castles comes from.
