  2. Natrium bisa dibuat dari reaksi sederhana yaitu proses elektrolisis.

  3. BAGAN PEMBUATAN MAGNESIUM

  4. Proses pembuatan magnesium dari air laut melalui tahap-tahap sebagai berikut: • Air laut dicampur dengan kapur (CaO) sehingga magnesium mengendap sebagai magnesium hidroksida (Mg(OH)2). • CaO(s) + H2O(l) → 2Ca2+(aq) + 2OH-(aq) • Mg2+(aq) + 2OH-(aq) → Mg(OH)2(s) • Adapun CaO dibuat dari batu kapur atau kulit kerang melalui pemanasan. • CaCO3(s) → CaO(s) +CO2(g) • Endapan magnesium hidroksida yang terbentuk, disaring kemudian direaksikan dengan larutan asam klorida pekat. • Mg(OH)2(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MgCl2(aq) + 2H2O(l) • Larutan diuapkan sehingga diperoleh kristal magnesium klorida (MgCl2). Kristal itu kemudian dicairkan dan dielektrolisis. • MgCl2(l) → Mg2+(l) + 2Cl-(l) • Katode: Mg2+(l) +2e → Mg(l) • Anode : 2Cl-(l) → Cl2(g) + 2e
