Getting Involved in WWII • Students will learn why America got involved in WWII. • Research will be conducted by students to better understand the reasoning behind the attack on Pearl Harbor by reading an article provided. • Students will gain an understanding of Japan’s intent as well as America’s involvement through observing maps and pictures of the attack.
Japanese-American Internment In WWII • The attack on Pearl Harbor by Imperial Japan did more than bring American into the war. • Students will: • Learn about racial tensions that occurred after the attack on Pearl Harbor • Read primary sources of people from internment camps • Interpret history through primary resources like letters, journals, etc.
War Propaganda • War propaganda was used in various ways for ultimately the same purpose during WWII. • Students will: • Complete KWL chart about war propaganda • Understand purpose, need, and effectiveness of war propaganda • Create their own war bonds commercial • Research effect of war propaganda on America
Rationing in America during WWII • A country engaged in total war will change the way said country on their home front. • Students will: • Understand the extensive impact that total war had on the lives of people at home • Experience what rationing is like through more modern means
Rosie the Riveter • Students will learn about women’s contribution to the war. • Observation of photos as well as creating a photo analysis will help students get an idea of how women contributed to the war efforts. • Students will compare real pictures of women working during the war with the picture of Rosie the Riveter by Norman Rockwell.
Ending WWII • Discuss main steps America took toward ending the war. • Students will: • Use Wordle to create a word cloud filled with words of how they believe Americans felt about the atomic bomb • Weigh pros and cons of all options considered by America in attempt to end the war
