Urgent Action Required for a Sustainable Low-Carbon Economy: Lessons from Global Reports

The 2007/2008 Human Development Report and subsequent analyses, including Baer & Athanasiou’s "A 350 ppm Emergency Pathway," underline the critical importance of transitioning to a low-carbon global economy to mitigate climate change impacts. With the goal of limiting global warming to 2°C, urgent strategies must be implemented, especially in developed regions like the EU, which are analyzed through the lens of Greenhouse Development Rights. Failure to act efficiently and decisively could jeopardize adaptation efforts and further exacerbate socio-economic disparities around development thresholds.
