  4. 3. How fast are you allowed to drive on highways, secondary roads, in cities (and in school or kindergarten areas)? The maximum speeds allowed in Hungary are: MOTORWAY: 130 km/h EXPRESS WAY: 110 km/h OUTSIDE BUILT UP AREAS: 90 km/h WITHIN TOWNS: 50 km/h In school or kindergarten areas speed restrictions are possible: 20-30 km/h

  5. 4. How expensive is petrol and diesel in your country? PETROL 95 OCT: 1.4511 euro /ltr DIESEL : 1.4646 euro/ ltr

  6. 5. Is there any kind of ecological fuel (in your country), which contains ethanol, for example? Yes, we can buy ecological fuel in Hungary. For example: biodiesel and E85(85% Ethanol).

  7. 6. Are there legal regulations for regular checks of cars and trucks? Which ones and how often? New cars have to be checked first after four years, then every two years. Trucks have to be checked every year.

  8. 7. How many kilometeres of asphalted streets do you have in your country? The Hungarian national public road network is 31,698 km long. Roads paved with asphalt and bitumen are 30,151 km long.

  9. 8. How many traffic accidents do you have per year (death casualties, injured persons)? In 2011 there were 15,827 traffic accidents in Hungary. Death casualties: 638 Seriously injured persons: 5,152 Slightly injured persons: 15.020

  11. 10. Which rules do you have at zebra crossings? Are drivers forced to stop for pedestrians? --.The pedestrians need to make sure that it is safe to cross the street. --They have to indicate their wish to the drivers. --Pedestrians have priority at zebra crossings so drivers should stop and allow them to cross.

  12. 11. Which information is given on your number plates (towns, regions)? Give an example. The number plates in Hungary have a white background with black letters. Usually a three-letter combination is followed by a three-number combination. The number plate contains the Hungarian flag (if it was issued between 1990 and May 1, 2004) or the flag of European Union. Under the flag there is our country code, letter H for Hungary. The number plate does not show any information on the town or region, but the approximate time of registration may be found on the basis of it. ( The current system of registration plates started with AAA-001 in 1990.). It contains the sticker of technical inspection.

  13. 12. It is possible to exchange the number plates, for example one number for two cars? Yes, it is possible to exchange the number plate but the owner has to pay for it and there are some rules: the plate must contain 6 characters ,not all kind of words are possible, there are official combinations It is impossible to use the same number for two cars.

  14. 13. Do you need an insurance for your car? Yes, the law require that we have an insurance for our car by (called GFB=vehicle liability insurance).We have to renew it every year. When you drive in Hungary you need to have the following documents on you: driver’s license, car registration certificate, car insurance certificate.

  15. 14. Do you have to wear a kind of hazard warning jacket in traffic accidents or breakdowns? If yes, who? Yes, it is possible to exchange the number plate but the owner has to pay for it and there are some rules: the plate must contain 6 characters ,not all kind of words are possible, there are official combinations It is impossible to use the same number for two cars.

  16. 15. In which age can you learn to drive? A-MOTORBIKE: 24 B-CAR: 17 C-TRUCK: 21 D-BUS: 24 If you want to drive a car you should be at least 17 years old in Hungary. From age of 16 you can drive a moped but until age of 24 you can’t ride a motorbike.

  17. 16. What is the alcohol limit in your country? In Hungary there is a zero tolerance policy, you can’t drink and drive.

  18. 17. What is the proporitional share of busses, trucks, trains and planes in long distance haulage? Hungarian domestic transport 67 % is road transport, 18% railway transport, 11% transport by pipeline,4% inland waterway transport.

  19. 18. How many goods are transported within your country (tons per year)? In 2011 176,031 thousand tons of goods were transported in Hungary.
