  1. Which bubbles are best? Zachary Bridges 10/15/12

  2. A little about bubbles… • Three layers • 2 detergent, 1 water • Surface tension • Surface tension aims to minimize surface area.

  3. Materials • Bubble wand • Water • Joy Detergent • Light Corn Syrup • Glycerin

  4. Procedure • Prepare bubble solutions • Blow some bubbles • Measure “best” • Average duration • Rate of Success • Biggest

  5. Specimen

  6. Hypothesis • Since Glycerin is the most viscous, it will produce the best bubbles.

  7. Photos

  8. Results

  9. Conclusion • The Glycerin bubbles yielded the most, largest, and longest lasting of the specimen tested. • The Glycerin is a better candidate for an additive to a detergent-water bubble-making solution.

  10. Why does this work?

  11. Hindrance of Evaporation • Both Glycerin and Corn Syrup form weak Hydrogen bonds with the inner layer of water, keeping the water from evaporating. Glucose and Fructose Glycerol (Glycerin)
