  2. Paignton Zoo Environmental Park Mission Statement Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is an education, scientific and conservation charity dedicated to protecting our global wildlife heritage and inspiring in people a respect for animals, plants and the environment.

  3. Education Approx. 600,000,000 people visit zoos around the world each year Paignton Zoo has over 500,000 visitors each year and49,000of those are on educational visits.

  4. Things we do that you (might) know about… Animals • Teaching sessions based on the national curriculum and specifications. • Residential groups for weeks or parts of weeks. • BTEC in partnership with South Devon College and Bridgwater College. • Children’s clubs for Zoo members.

  5. Things we do that you might not know about… Plants! • Registered botanical gardens. • Look after many endangered species of plants., especially cycads and buddleias. • Many habitat zones with the appropriate plants. • Themed gardens such as the medicinal garden and the wildlife garden. • Curriculum, enquiry based plant sessions. Forest School • Forest school style sessions for school groups and young peoples clubs. • Education officers are in the process of level 3 forest school training with Bridgwater College.

  6. Nature Reserves • We look after two nature reserves one on the zoo site with a variety of woodland and limestone grassland, Primley woods open to the public across the road. • We use the reserves for a variety of different activities including Countryside management BTEC. Sustainability • Green facts trail. • Cows Vs Caterpillars. • Games! Snakes and ladders, Play your ‘eco cards’ right. • Leading by example. • Teacher training sessions.

Boreholes, rainwater recycling, reed bed filtering. Solar Panels and building management systems Heat pumps Biomass boiler Recycling, compost, green roofs, battery powered vehicles……..
