History • Robert Baden Powell -soldier • Taught troop to track, camp, take care of self • Called soldiers scouts • started scouting in 1907 on return to England • 1916 younger boys joined>>>> cub scouts • 28 million boys and girls across the globe today
What is Scouting? • A worldwide movement for young people to develop the qualities which will help them take a constructive place in society. THEY LEARN TO BE: • Good citizens. • Strong in character . • Personally fit.
How is scouting done? • METHOD • Outdoor • Six system • Learning by doing/ action • Games / hobbies • System of progressive tests and badges • Self development, self reliance, self- realization • Fun ! Fun! Fun!
The Pack • Cub Scouts divided into teams of six boys • Called “Six” age 7-11 years • Pack is run by “Akela” and Assistant(s) • Each unit of six has a sixer and assisted by a second sixer

SECTIONS OF THE GROUP • This is a movement for young people. ( girls and boys) • There are three (3) sections • 7-11 Cub Scouts • 11-15 Scouts • 15-18 Venture Scouts
THE JUNGLE STORY • Akela is a symbol of wisdom, authority, and leadership • Other characters: • Shere Khan ( tiger) • Baloo ( bear) • Raksha (she-wolf) • Bagheera (panther) • The Scouting program has used themes from The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling since 1916 • Cubs must be familiar with the story before being invested.
