Latin American Collaborative Research Federation “A Virtual Institute” Goal: Stimulate Latin American academic collaborative research in Information and Communication Technology as an enabler of economic and social development Announced on May 9th, 2007 $930K Microsoft Research support over 3 years Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile is working in association with the Universidad de Chile to form the “Hub” administrative center of the Research Federation.   7. “Center for Collaborative Technologies, University of Washington” July 16 announcement • Enabling the Next-Generation of Virtual Collaboration • $750K over 3 years • Goal: Extend the ConferenceXP collaborative platform for distance learning and research support. Teachers, students, and researchers will benefit from real-time collaboration, wireless-enabled classrooms, and highly interactive distance-learning environments.

  8. “A. Richard Newton Breakthrough Research Award” Encourage research that impacts science, industry and/or society. Projects will combine multiple domains of experience and innovative computational approaches. The total RFP amount available is $1,000,000. Microsoft Research anticipates making between ten and twelve awards. The award honors the memory, legacy and accomplishments of the late A.
