  1. “The Gospel Can Change the World” Acts 1:1-11

  2. “The Gospel Can Change the World” • THE CHRISTIAN’S FAITH IS BASED IN FACT, NOT FICTION • After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.  (Acts 1:3) • That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. [1 John 1:1-3]

  3. “The Gospel Can Change the World” • 16 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain. 19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. [ 2 Peter 1:18-21]

  4. “The Gospel Can Change the World” • THE CHRISTIAN’S FAITH IS POWERED BY GOD’S WORD • Jesus told his disciples that they should, not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized withwater, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:4,5) • Paul wrote, “I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  The life I live in the body I live by faith in the son of God who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”  (Gal. 2:20)

  5. “The Gospel Can Change the World” • THE GOAL OF THE CHURCH IS TO PROCLAIM THE MESSAGE OF SALVATION • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.[Acts 1:8] • THE CHRISTIAN’S FAITH IS FUELED BY THE PROMISE OF CHRIST’S RETURN • After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” [Acts 1:9-11]
