  2. Test Design • Collaborative effort of education departments: RI, NH, and VT • Standards referenced test of grade level expectations (GLEs/GSEs) • October testing of previous years GLEs • Reading, Writing, and Mathematics • All grades in Cranston take the same test on the same day

  3. Test Design • An on-demand test • Not a timed test • Three days of testing, 45 minutes each day • Grades 3-8 take reading week 1, math week 2; grades 5 & 8 take writing week 3 • Grade 11 takes writing week 1, reading week 2, and math week 3

  4. Test Design • Accommodations are available for children who need them (case by case basis) • Modifications are not allowable • 25% of the test items are released each year for practice • 4 types of questions: • Multiple Choice • Short Answer • Constructed Response • Extended Response

  5. Six Strands in Reading • Word identification Skills and Strategies • Vocabulary • Initial Understanding of Literacy Text • Analysis and Interpretation of Literary Text • Initial Understanding of Informational Text • Analysis and Interpretation of Informational Text

Four Strands in Math • Numbers and operations • Geometry and Measurement • Functions and Algebra • Data, Statistics and Probability • Math test can be read aloud • No calculators in session 1 • Calculators allowed in sessions 2 and 3 • Manipulatives, rulers, protractors, and scratch paper are used; reference sheets grades 5 & 6

  7. 5 Strands in Writing • Structures of Language • Writing in response to Literacy or Informational text • Narratives • Informational writing • Writing Conventions

  8. Types of Reports • Individual Student Report • Item Analysis Report • School Results Report • School Summary Report • District Summary Report • www.ride.ri.gov, click on State Testing and Reporting or NECAP Results

FERPAFamily Educational Rights and Privacy Act • Access to individual student results is restricted to: the student, the student’s parents/ guardians, and authorized school personnel. • Superintendents and principals are responsible for maintaining the privacy and security of all student records
