  3. The city is the eternal abode of several groups • The Church • Old Testament Saints • Tribulation and Millennial Saints (included but not mentioned) • The Shechinah Glory will tabernacle with humans. V.3 • The curse and its effects of Gen. 3:16-19 are removed. V.4

  4. The works of God will be accomplished because He is faithful and true. V.5-8 • The creation of the eternal order is assured. V.5 • the provision of the fountain of the waters of life is assured. V.6 • The inheritance of believers is assured. (new heavens, new earth, New Jerusalem) V.7 • The inheritance of unbelievers is assured. (Lake of Fire) V.8

  5. The Eternal New Jerusalem • The Shechinah Glory emanates through the city v.11 • The city wall emphasizes protection. • Has 12 gates. V.12 • 12 Angels are at each gate v.12 • The 12 gates will be named after the 12 Tribes of Israel. V.12 • The great wall will have four sides with three gates on each side. V.13 • The wall is 216 feet high. V. 17

  6. The foundation of the New Jerusalem. • Emphasizes the permanence • 12 Foundations named after the 12 Apostles. V.14 • The measurement of the New Jerusalem. V.15-17 • Emphasizes its spaciousness • 1,500 miles long, wide, and high. • 2,250,000 Square Miles • 3,375,000,000 Cubic Miles • It is the largest city ever known to man

The Shape of the New Jerusalem • It implies a cube shape: Greek = Tetragonos lit. “four-angled” V.16 • A perfect cube is the same shape as the Holy of Holies • A perfect cube has eight points. 8 is a symbol of new beginnings, new birth, resurrection. 8 is a new first • 12 is the number of governmental perfection as seen in the 12 foundations and 12 gates

  8. The New Jerusalem’s composition. V18-21 • The wall is made out of Jasper (green) • The entire city is made out of transparent gold. • The foundations of the wall: • Jasper-Green • Sapphire-Blue • Chalcedony-greenish • Emerald-green • Sardonyx-red and white • Sardius-fiery red • Chrysolite-golden yellow

  9. Chrysolite-golden yellow • Beryl-Aqua green • Topaz-greenish yellow • Chrysoprase-golden green • Jacinth-violet • Amethyst-purple • The 12 Gates will be made out a huge single pearl. V.21 • There will be a singular street which is composed of transparent gold. V.21 • There will be no Temple since the entire Triune God will inhabit the city along with the Redeemed. V.22

  10. There will be no sun or moon since the Lord will be the source of light for the city for all eternity. V.23 • The Gentiles will walk by means of the light, as well as those who served as kings in the old order. V.24 • Note: The mention of Gentiles shows that Jews and Gentile distinction is kept for all eternity, but there is no functional difference. • The gates will never be shut for all of eternity. V.25

  11. There will be no more night. V.25 • There will be nothing unrighteous allowed to enter into the eternal city since all unrighteousness is confined to the Lake of Fire. V.27
