  1. Saint Christina

  2. The Story Of her life… She was born to a rich and powerful judge named Urbain. He was deep in the practice of heathenism (believing in idols) At the age of 11, Christina showed interest in God. She loved and believed in him. Her father was furious about this he locked her in a tower. Statues of his golden idols were there. Christina broke them all. Christina didn’t believed in all her fathers made up gods and idols that he worshiped. She gave out all the broken pieces to the poor. Her father than whipped her and threw her in a dungeon. He tore her body with iron hooks and tied her to a rack beneath a fire. Still God saved her. Next, a heavy stone was tied around her neck then she was thrown into the lake of Balsena. An angel saved her. After that her father died of spite. One of her father’s friends who was also a judge and also was deep in the practice of Heathenism continued to torture her. He threw her in a burning furnace she stayed in there for five days still unhurt. After surviving that he put her in a pit of serpents and then cut of her tongue. Lastly, he shot piercing arrows at her and she died. She died at Tyro, a city that used to be an island, but now is lost deep in the water. On that day Christina became a martyr. Saint Christina never gave up hope or trust in God . She is a great role model for us all.

  3. Fact to know about her: • Her feast day is July 24 • Her relics are now in Palermo, Sicily • She earned the martyrs crown at Tyro. • Since Saint Christina was from farther back in time we do not know the exact dates she was born, but we do know she lived around the 3rd and 4th century

  4. What is a saint and how do you become one? A saint is a person who lived a holy life on earth and now lives forever with God in heaven. The process of becoming a saint used to be after you died if you were recognized as a holy person or a martyr you were declared a Saint by the church. Now, we have a new and longer process. After dying if someone is said to have lived a holy life or said to be a martyr the Bishop of the diocese finds out more about he/she and makes sure everything is true. All this information is put into a faithful copy, Then it is given to the congregation of the causes of saints.

  5. If the cause is accepted by the Congregation there is even more investigation. They double check that he/she lived their life holy and with God. They also make sure if they were martyr that they actually died for their faith. Once they are sure that he/she was a holy person they are declared Venerable. The next step is beautification. When you are you beautified you are declared “Blessed.” This happens when the church learns and approves one miracle the saint has done. After you are “Blessed” you must have another miracle. After that you are on your way to sainthood.

  6. What does it mean if your “Blessed?” Being Blessed is in the process of canonization ( sainthood.) Being declared Blessed happens during beatification in this step you must have a miracle. Many people now are Blessed and may be on their way to becoming a saint. Some examples are Blessed Marianne Cope and Blessed Andre Bessette.
