  2. definition Hydrocarbons are a compound of hydrogen and carbon, such as any of those which are the chief components of petroleum and natural gas.

  3. What are hydrocarbons used for? Most of the compounds in crude oil are hydrocarbons. This means that they only contain hydrogen and carbon atoms, joined together by chemical bonds. There are different types of hydrocarbons but most of the ones in crude oil are alkanes.

  4. What things are made up of hydrocarbons? Crude oil is a mixture of compounds called hydrocarbons. Many useful materials can be produced from crude oil. It can be separated into different fractions using fractional distillation. Some of these fractions can go through a process called cracking and can then be used as fuels.

  5. examples • Fuels • oils

  6. Hydrocarbons at a football match! Plastics- seats, shoes, cups

  7. Hydrocarbons at a gig! Microphones and stands , guitars, stage

  8. How are hydrocarbons used in everyday lives? Hydrocarbons are used in our daily life for making aerosol sprays. They are also use in small pocket lighters as liquefied butane, primary energy source for current civilizations, main source of the world’s electric energy and heat sources (such as home heating) because of the energy produced when burnt.
