Mission Statement: The Mission of the Sacramento Regional Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is to develop partnerships within the Sacramento Region medical profession (active and retired) that aid in the education, training and deployment of citizen volunteers and resources in the event of a large scale, local emergency.

  3. Vision: • The Vision of the Sacramento Regional Medical Reserve Corps is to enlist citizen volunteers to assist in the establishment of an organized pool of resources capable of being deployed to support Emergency Management Systems already in place in the event of a major emergency. • The goal of the MRC will be that of a support role in providing volunteer medical professionals and resources to augment those services in the community engaged in the health and welfare of the citizenry.

  4. Benefits to the Community: • Provide Highly Trained Corps of Medical Professionals and support personnel to augment existing Emergency Medical Services during a large scale local emergency.

Benefits to the Community: • Provides highly trained and organized citizen volunteers the the opportunity to help their neighbors and families prepare and assist in large scale emergencies and enhances the First Responders ability to focus on the most critical and life- threatening situations. • Helps bridge the gap in response time by providing local resources teams to enhance local emergency services capabilities. • Enhances public outreach and addresses the health needs of the community.

  6. Surge Capacity: • Decreases amount of lag time while waiting for State and Federal response teams to arrive.

  7. Who can Volunteer: • Physician’s • Nurses • Emergency Medical Technicians /Paramedics • Pharmacists • Non Medical Support Personnel • Translator’s • Mental Health Professionals • Mortuary Services • Health Information Management • Veterinary Professionals • Chaplaincy Personnel

Requirements: • Submit to abbreviated background investigation to include: 1) Volunteer application 2) Live Scan (fingerprints) - paid for by SSD • Complete 16 hours Sheriff’s Orientation course • Volunteer a minimum of 24 hours per year • Attend additional training as directed by the MRC • Actively participate in MRC activities and promote other community outreach programs.

  13. ROLE OF THE MRC: • Assist in Community Disaster preparedness exercises. • Assist in deployment of volunteer resources in the event of a large scale emergency or disaster. • Enhance local Public Health Programs by supporting the needs of the community with trained volunteers.

Volunteer Roles: • Support CERT Teams at neighborhood First Aid Stations/Shelters. • Perform Triage and provide care at field Treatment sites, • hospitals, clinics and or Medically Fragile Shelters. • Screen patients, administer vaccinations or dispense medications • at a county dispensing site. • Assist Public Health Teams with Community Outreach and • Education or medicating or vaccinating home-bound and • institutionalized patients.

Conclusion: • Established in Fall of 2003, The MRC is a registered Not for Profit organization 501 ( c ) (3) . • Governed by a Board of Directors and established By-laws. • Over 100 members to date. • Partner Organization include: • California Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT-CA11) • Mercy Hospitals • Verizon Wireless • Shriner’s Hospital • With Continued Support from: • Sacramento County Coroner’s Office • Congressman Lungren’s Office • Senator Don Perata
