  1. HENNA BROWS: WHAT IS HENNA BROWS: WHAT IS IT, AND IS IT RIGHT FOR IT, AND IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU? YOU? Henna brows are a method for eyebrow tinting used to taint the skin under the eyebrow hair. The purpose of tinting eyebrows is to create an illusion of depth in the region and fill any sparseness. The substance used as the dye is called henna, a natural dye made from the leaves of the Henna tree. Henna is an ancient material with use recorded as early as by the Egyptians for hair dyeing, clothes, and make-up. The process for using henna dye is very similar to henna colouring. The henna brow dye, however, is altered and formulated specifically to cater to eyebrow tones. THE PROCESS OF APPLICATION Applying henna brows is quick and easy and should take only 30 minutes to complete. The brow line is first sculpted into the client’s preferred shape via waxing or tweezing. Then the correct shade to match the colour of your hair is chosen. Henna powder and demineralised water are first mixed to create a paste. The paste is then applied along the eyebrows and allowed to soak into the skin for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Usually, a smaller amount is applied to the beginning of the brow, and more density is applied on the tail for an ombre effect and a natural, beautiful finish. HENNA BROWS VS. CONVENTIONAL TINTING Henna is a safer and all-natural alternative to traditional tinting methods and dyes available on the market. It is a vegan-friendly and chemical-free substance with no peroxides, thus making it suitable for sensitive skin. Henna also is a longer-lasting solution and can be seen as a stepping stone to more permanent tinting solutions. Henna is a great solution for clients who are not ready to opt for methods such as microblading and cosmetic tattooing. It offers better definition, a fluffier and matte finish when compared to traditional eyebrow tints. Henna is also more effective at tinting the skin, whereas other methods tint the hair more effectively. HOW LONG WILL HENNA BROWS LAST? Henna brows should last between 2 to 4 weeks but are highly dependent on the client’s skin type and eyebrow hair density. More hair is better as it protects the Henna, and clients who do not have much hair will not see long-lasting effects. Henna is a semi- permanent solution. As your skin sheds and oil is produced in the skin, the henna will fade. To maintain henna brows for as long as possible, it’s best not to wash the face more than required. Clients are also suggested to purchase conditioners or oils to help prolong their duration. Additionally, skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema will cause the henna to not last as long. Healthy skin is a must for this procedure, and skin conditions that cause skin shedding aren’t ideal for using henna brows. DO’S AND DON’TS WITH HENNA BROWS: Dos’s Don’ts Work with your technician to choose the correct shade to avoid a mismatch. Make sure that the henna is applied perfectly and that a Vaseline-based barrier is used to protect the surrounding skin. Use a brow lotion daily to prolong the life of the henna brows and to seal in colour. Get a fake tan approximately a week before the procedure or after. Get your eyebrows dyed on the day of an important event Use strong cleansing products with retinol in and around the brow region. These products exfoliate the skin and will remove henna faster and are not recommended. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND ABOUT HENNA BROWS: Henna is a tedious product to apply with very little room for error. The application of Henna must be perfect and match exactly what your requirements are. It is also tough to remove any stains from the skin easily. The result of henna is highly dependent on the client’s skin type, texture, and eyebrow density. As henna cannot even out any imperfections, the results may seem uneven, especially for clients with sparse hair. Dry, oily, or porous skin also may have issues with henna. Therefore, it is hard to make it resemble an eyebrow pencil or shadow that would sit on top of the skin and cover imperfections. Henna brows can fade and give an orangey finish as it fades. While black henna does not have this issue, there is a chemical called PPD in black shades, which can be dangerous to the skin and requires a patch test to make sure if it is suitable for your skin. https://cosmetictattooingmelbourne.com.au/henna-brows/ https://cosmetictattooingmelbourne.com.au/henna-brows/
