  3. Research Papers Overview: What is balance? Balance is an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. How does it work? The inner ear system works with the eyes, muscles and joints to help maintain balance. Visual signals are sent to the brain about the body’s position in relation to its surroundings. These signals are processed by the brain, and compared to information from the vestibular and the skeletal systems. In the inner ear, a complex series of tubes, fluids and sensitive hairs work to help the brain detect our body’s movement and position, including perceptions of up and down, side to side and circular movements. Thesis Statements: This paper will explain if balance actually does fade away while aging, why aging people may not be able to keep good balance and how a person can improve their balance. Implications: Poor balance is at least partly caused by not using the sense, so the solution is to use your balance more with exercise (or move to outer space). Synesthesia: vimeo.com/5297531
