Aims • Explain the traditional approach to addressing domestic abuse adopted by statutory and voluntary services • Explain how the Children & Families Act 2010 has brought an opportunity to interviene using different methods • Explain how a variety of approaches helps us to better address the issue of domestic abuse in communities

  3. Co-ordinated Community Response to Domestic Violence– for example • DV Forum • MAPP Co-ordinator • Police • Social Services • Housing • Health Case Managers Prison Resettlement Manager Women Victims Women’s Safety Worker • Programmes Team • Programme Manager • Treatment Manager • Programme Facilitators(prison or community) Local Women’s Services (where available) Probation Area Victim Liaison Unit

  4. Positives • 50 hours in the family home • Gender neutral approach which focuses on relationship dynamics

  5. Difficulties • Affirming but not colluding • Critical dialogue but not ‘challenging’ • Differences for men and women doing the work?
