  2. Prospects & Crop position – Kharif 2007-08 • Heavy rainfall • So far, 3,100 mm from June till date • No significant pest infestation in cereals • Phytophthera infestation in arecanut. Reduction by 500 tons against 2500 tonnes likely. • Fruit drop observed in rainfed chillies (2000 ha) • Pulses area damaged due to heavy rains.

  3. Prospects for Rabi 2007-08 • Quality seed availability to be beneficial • Good recharge of ground water • Residual soil moisture would help pulses & groundnut prospects • Horticultural crops expected to get regular irrigation

  4. ADDITIONAL CENTRAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME • Support to Government of India required for • Improvement in agricultural statistics through use of remote sensing data • Setting up of two small basic weather observatories under State Department of Agriculture • Appoint field staff on contract basis for crop area & yield estimation surveys • Trainings on Integrated Farming System

Extension Block Technology Team and Farmers Advisory Committee constituted in 10 talukas Involvement of farmers Information & Advisory Committee Strategic Research & Extension Plan (SREP) prepared but requires to be modified State Extension Work Plan of Rs.54.84 lakhs proposed Public private participation started with local industry & NGOs. Revision of Package of Practices taken up for all the major crops

  6. Training modules for crops with audio visual aid being prepared • Regular publication in print media being taken up • Outstanding farmer involved in training • Visit to Village Panchayats initiated for technical support to farmers & for implementation of developmental programmes.

  7. Seed arrangement • Present seed replacement rate of cereals – 14% • Projected seed replacement rate – 20% • Seed is generally procured from NSC, KSSC & KKV Dapoli • State Government gives 50% subsidy at source • During the year 2006-07, subsidy was given for 335 tonnes • Seed made available through Cooperative and Departmental outlets. • Seed production is taken up through NAFED in Kharif 07 • New varieties like MO17, Karjat-3 introduced. • Vegetable seed procured by Government besides private traders • Hybrid paddy seed made available (4,000 kgs)

  8. Seed Treatment • Seed treated with trichoderma • 190 demonstration conducted • 4469 Nos of farmers benefited • 15,000 ha area treated • Print media, radio utilized for publicity

  9. Seed Testing Lab • Limitation of staff • 1,000 Nos samples targeted

  11. Fertilizer position Rabi 2007-08 • 1550 M.T. Urea required & 540 M.T. made available through Zuari Industries • Rock phosphate is also promoted • Village-wise soil testing & mapping initiated • 15,000 soil health cards to be issued • 40 fertilizer samples will be drawn for testing • No Fertilizer Testing Lab in State

  12. Integrated Nutrient Management • Promoted through rotation of pulses/ groundnut in paddy fields • Promotion of vermi composting and organic manure units with State & Central subsidy • Balanced use of fertilizers • VAM production unit newly established
