  2. The consortium Core partners • Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment – CSTB (Fr)Coordinator of ROADCON: Dr. Alain Zarli, alain.zarli@cstb.fr • Technical Research Centre of Finland – VTT (Fi) • Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research – TNO (NL) • Garas Consultants Limited (UK) • University of Salford (UK) • European Construction Institute / Loughborough University (UK) • Nemetschek AG (De) • Belgian Building ResearchInstitute – BBRI (Be) • GTM Construction (Fr) Support group~280+ organisations in ~28 countries.

  3. ROADCON in a nutshell • ROADCON is a strategic RTD roadmapproject on ICT in the construction sector. • It will suggest and prepare large scale actions for the forthcoming European 6th Framework Programme (FP6). • It aims at achieving major impacts in the European construction sector. • It addresses "New ways of working and electronic commerce" (Key Action II) of the "Information Societies Technologies" (IST) programme Impacts Actions in FP6(European 6th Framework Program for R&D) Mgt procedures Roadmap Vision Industryrequirements Opportuni-ties by ICT

  4. Vision - 1 Tentative Construction sectoris driven by total product life cycle performanceand supported by knowledge-intensive andmodel based ICT

  5. Vision - 2 ConstructionI C TVision Tentative Total Life Cycle Mgt ensures holistic decisions makingover the total building life cycle Sustainability is supported by data on materials, products and processes, indicatorsand assessment methodsand tools Knowledge-Based Construction relies on industry-wide experiences and fundamental understanding of complex system interactions at all levels Virtual teams combine distributed competencesvia global collaboration platforms Ubiquitous access is provided by industry-widecommunications infastructure, distributed and embedded systems, ambient intelligence andmobile computing Performance driven process assures compliance to client’s requirements and emphasis on customer perceived value Model based ICT enables context-awareness,automation, simulation and visualisation based on computerinterpretable data Flexible interoperability between heterogenous ICT systems will enable seamless interaction between all stakeholders

  6. Objectives • Form a strategyfor futureresearch and development on ICT in construction. • Prepare and suggest RTDactions and priorities for ICT in the construction sector in the forthcoming European 6th Framework Programme (FP6). • Identify keyactors and stakeholders and prepare co-operation between them. • Seek wide consensus among European research, ICT- and user communities. FP6 = European 6th Framework Programme ICT = Information and Communication Technologies RTD = Research and Technology Development
