  1. How to choose the right dashcam A dashboard camera, or a dash cam, is also known as a driving recorder, car DVR, or an event data recorder (EDR). It is a camera that continuously records the view through an automobile’s windscreen. It is fixed atop the dashboard, hence the name dashcam. It may also be present in front of the rear or side windows. Some modern dashcams use 360 degree vision to record the interior of the car. And can automatically send videos and pictures. Dashcams can be classified as remote viewing CCTV cameras. Some dashcams and EDRs can record the g-force acting on the car, its speed, the GPS data, the steering angle, etc. The dashcam may be attached to the interior windscreen as well with the help of adhesive tapes or suction cups. The resolution of a dashcam is an important factor as your security is at risk. A camera with night vision is preferred over other cameras. For selecting the perfect dashcam for you car, you can keep the following features and specifications in mind: 1.Video resolution (extremely important) A good dashcam should have a minimum of 720p HD recording. This ensures the footage is clear enough to identify car makers and models, license plates, and faces. You can get 1080p HD and 2K resolution dashcams too, but they come with larger video files. 2.Night vision (extremely important) An accident never notifies before occurring. You never know when it will occur. There may be enough illumination in the form of city lights, headlights, and street lights, but they will not be present everywhere. Hence it’s important to be safe. 3.Storage (extremely important) A dashcam should come with at least 64GB of storage. As with most videos, the higher the resolution, the more the space required. An hour of 1080p footage may take up more than 6GB of space, while 720p footage of the same duration will take up approximately 1-2GB of space. 4.Size of the camera (important) All obstructions in viewing are hazardous while driving, and larger dashcams can block line of sight. It becomes even more crucial if you have other obstructions like air fresheners in place. In general, smaller dashcams are better. 5.Automatic power (important) Some dashcams turn on with the engine of the car, and turn off with it. As surveillance technology, dashcams are useful only when they are recording. Hence they should be recording at all times. If you don’t buy a camera with this feature, Murphy’s Law will try to make sure that you will have a mishap the one day you forget to switch it on. We advise you not to risk it. 6.GPS (optional)

  2. GPS tracking can come into the picture in case of a police issue. You might run into an accident, and end up having to prove that the accident occurred at the place you testified it occurred. The footage may no be clear at times, making this more important. GPS tracking also includes tracking the speed of your vehicle, in case of wrongly handed speeding tickets. If you are a parent, this feature will help you keep track of where your child really was all night.
