Working with the Guild What is working in the community? • Fundraising • Campaigning to raise awareness • Volunteering • Running and event FOR the community • Working with an organisation outside of the University • Collaboration with other groups to affect the student or wider community • Micro volunteering to have an impact on people in the community kkk There are lots of different kinds of community!

  3. Working with the Guild What have you done in the community with your group in the past? What could you do that is different? Discuss in small groups You have 5 minutes!

Working with the Guild What is a stakeholder? • The people you work with and effect in the community, beyond and even closer to home. • That could be… • The University • The Guild • Your Service User • Local residents • You have to consider their needs, how you communicate with them and how you affect them! kkk

Working with the Guild What is important when communicating with any organisation? • Be courteous- even when complaining! • Be clear- you may know what you are talking about but they don’t! • Be concise- is all the information necessary? • Be coherent!- Does it make sense? • Ask questions! • Do you know everything? • Do THEY know everything?- CHECK • Remember communicating isn’t just about getting what you want! • It’s how you build relationships!

  6. Working with the Guild What must you do to prepare? • Annual Risk Assessment • Charitable Street Collection Permit Application • Service Level Agreements • Relevant Guild forms • DBS Checks/ Safeguarding training • Prepare press and marketing materials kkk

  7. Working with the Guild On the Day/ When you start • Who is in charge? Is there an overall person or are you splitting up roles? How will this be split? • Do you have everything you need? • If you are doing a bucket collection do you have a safe place to store the money?

  8. Working with the Guild Measuring your Impact • Record EVERYTHING • Testimonials • Goals that ‘translate’ e.g. Chasing Zero raised over £700 by Feb, meaning 18 babies could be born HIV free • Let us know your fundraising totals so we can shout about it kkk

  9. Working with the Guild Moving Forward • Reflect on the activity- how can you improve • Get feedback from those attending and volunteers involved! • Recognise any volunteers that have helped you • Thank you cards • Badges • Volunteer of the month
